Children of Men- Can You Imagine?

Can you imagine, if all the small, smiling, crying, silly faces of children were to disappear? All that would be left is the serious, pushy, driven world of adults with no one to soften our every day blows?

An interesting movie- Children of Men, has come to my attention. The scenario is unfathomable, yet intriguing. In the year 2027, people no longer could conceive children, and the youngest person in the world has recently died. It is set in England, but this situation is occurring all over the world. There is no answer as to why, or if the world food supply was compromised by chemicals or radiation, or other factors, but the result is the same. No more children. Ever. The end of the human race, and everyone knows it.

What is the likelihood of this scary scenario?

Time magazine has an idea…“Some birth-control enthusiasts want to answer with a barrage of coercive measures ranging from special taxes on any family with more than two children to sterility drugs in the public water supply.”

‘Experts’ predict that the Earth is being overpopulated in many areas and subliminal propaganda is already in place to begin our conditioning in control of our numbers. In modern society it is accepted for a couple to have 2 children. Couples with three children may be seen as extravagant- while those with 4 or more are approached with jokes about fertility- as if they have no knowledge of birth control. Well, I want to accept that in most cases, families with large numbers truly want and appreciate the blessings of a big family. (I, myself have six wonderful beautiful additions to the world- believe it or not, and I’m not old, not fat, not fanatical, and not accepting everything I’m fed through the media.)

But the movie continues with one man helping a young minority woman get out of the country to safe haven. He finds out that she’s pregnant-and was a commodity for all to capture. (Warring revolutionary groups, the government, etc.) Plus-there was a very cool Romanian gypsy woman who helped them at the last that I enjoyed watching….But as all sad stories go, the ending was bittersweet. I’m sure humankind survives, but in a real worse case scenario- I don’t think we’d be that lucky. It was a very disturbing vision of possibilities.

But population control is not a new idea. We just deny that it could be happening right under our noses.

English Churchman, Thomas Robert Malthus (1766-1834). In his “An Essay on the Principle of Population,” Malthus wrote: “All children born, beyond what would be required to keep up the population to a desired level, must necessarily perish, unless room may be made for them by the deaths of grown persons …Therefore …we should facilitate, instead of foolishly and vainly endeavoring to impede, the operations of nature in producing this mortality…” 32

We can’t just sleep as the world leaders decide what is best for us as a whole. Who knows how many Einsteins, Hemmingways, Braums, Wright Brothers, Martin Luther Kings, Kennedys, Washingtons, Marie Curie’s, Mother Theresa’s, and other normal beautiful children have already had their future lives ended by blind conditioning of population control efforts?
